What to include
- The names of the couple, and who is inviting
- The date, the place and the venue
- A line that makes clear it is a wedding abroad
- How to reply, and the date to reply by
- Where to find travel and accommodation information
Example wording
“Together with their families, Alex and Sam invite you to celebrate their wedding in Paphos, Cyprus, on Saturday 17 June 2028. Please visit our wedding website for everything you need to know about travel, where to stay and the weekend’s plans, and let us know by 1 March whether you can join us.”
A shorter version for a save the date: “We are getting married in the sun. Save the date: 17 June 2028, Paphos, Cyprus. Invitation and travel information to follow.”
Wording for the reply
Be clear and kind about the deadline: “Please reply by 1 March so we can confirm numbers with the venue.” If guests choose meals when they reply, say so: “You will be asked to choose your meal when you reply.”
What to put on your website instead
Travel routes, accommodation options, the schedule, the dress code and the answers to common questions all belong on your wedding website rather than the invitation itself. Our RSVP website gives each guest a private page for exactly that, with the reply form on the same page.

Invitation wording: your questions
- How should a destination wedding invitation be worded?
- Keep it warm and short: who is inviting, the date and place, how to reply and by when, and where to find the travel and stay information.
- Should I mention that it is abroad?
- Yes. Make the location clear so guests know to plan travel, and point them to the travel information.
- When should I set the reply date?
- Ask your venue for its deadline for final numbers and work backwards, commonly leaving a few weeks of margin.
- What is the difference between a save the date and an invitation?
- A save the date goes out first, early, with just the date and place. The invitation follows with the full details and the reply form.
- Can I include the reply form in a digital invitation?
- Yes. A digital invitation can hold the reply form, so replies land in one list.
