Searching for the best weddings abroad planner turns up plenty of confident claims and very little you can check. The honest position is that there is no single best planner: there is the one who covers your destination, suits your budget and guest numbers, tells you plainly what is included, and has someone on the ground on your wedding day. This page is how you find out, with questions you can put to any planner, including us.
Ten questions to ask any wedding planner abroad
1.Who is physically at the venue on my wedding day?
Why it matters. A planner in another country cannot fix a problem at 8am. The wedding day is run by whoever is on site.
A good answer. A named coordinator who works in that country and who is there from the morning.
2.Who arranges the legal ceremony, and what do I need to bring?
Why it matters. This is where weddings abroad most often go wrong. The rules and the deadlines differ by country and even by town.
A good answer. A specific list of documents and dates for your wedding, not a generic list, and a clear answer on whether the ceremony is legal or symbolic.
3.What does the price include and what does it not?
Why it matters. Two quotes that look 2,000 pounds apart can be the same wedding with different things left out.
A good answer. A written list with the price, what is in it, what is optional and what you pay elsewhere (flights, accommodation, local authority fees).
4.Are your prices published?
Why it matters. “Enquire for pricing” makes comparison impossible and often hides a range that depends on how keen you look.
A good answer. A starting price you can see before you speak to anyone, then a proposal priced for your real numbers.
5.Who are the suppliers, and are they yours or the venue’s?
Why it matters. It decides who you complain to, and who is accountable if the caterer is late.
A good answer. Named suppliers, with the planner accountable for the whole day rather than passing you to each one.
6.How and when do I pay, and what happens if the date moves?
Why it matters. You are paying a business in another country before the wedding is delivered.
A good answer. A written contract, a clear deposit, a payment plan that suits you and plain terms on changes and cancellations, all before you pay.
7.What happens if something goes wrong the week before?
Why it matters. Weather, a supplier dropping out and a flight delay are all ordinary risks.
A good answer. A calm, specific answer with an example, and a person you can ring, not a promise that nothing goes wrong.
8.How do you look after my guests?
Why it matters. A wedding abroad lives or dies on whether guests can find their way, book rooms and reply on time.
A good answer. Guest information, help with rooms and transfers, and a simple way to collect replies, meals and dietary needs.
9.Can I speak to couples you have planned for, and see real weddings?
Why it matters. Photographs of styled shoots are not weddings.
A good answer. Real couples, real photographs and honest answers, including what did not go to plan.
10.If you sell me travel, how am I protected?
Why it matters. Flights and accommodation bought as part of a package carry financial protection rules in the UK.
A good answer. A clear answer on which parts are protected, by whom (for example ATOL or ABTA), and which parts you book yourself.
Red flags
- No prices anywhere, only “contact us for a quote”.
- A planner who has never been to the venue they are recommending.
- An “all-inclusive” price with no written list of what is in it.
- Pressure to pay in full straight away, or no written contract.
- A “local partner” who is never named or introduced.
- Nobody can tell you who will be on site on the day.
How we answer the questions that matter most
You should hold us to the same list. Here is where we stand on the ones we can state plainly:
- A coordinator in the country, working there, is on site on your wedding day.
- We arrange the ceremony with the local authority and tell you exactly which documents you need and by when, and whether your ceremony is legal or symbolic.
- Every package shows a starting price and what is included. We do not use “enquire for pricing”, and the things we do not control are named separately in your proposal.
- Your proposal is a costed document you accept online, your contract is signed electronically, and a deposit holds the date. After that you pay at your own pace as long as the balance is clear before the wedding.
- A UK-based team you can ring, and a reply within one working day.
- Your guests get information and a private invitation and RSVP website for replies, meals and photos, included with every package.

Choosing a wedding planner abroad: your questions
- Who is the best wedding planner for weddings abroad?
- There is no single best planner for every couple. The best one for you is the one who covers your destination, fits your budget and guest numbers, publishes what is included, and has a named person on the ground on your wedding day. The ten questions above are how you check that, and they apply to us as much as to anyone else you speak to.
- Is a wedding planner worth it for a wedding abroad?
- For most couples with a guest list, yes. A planner’s value is concentrated in the things that are hardest to do from another country: arranging the ceremony with the local authority, managing suppliers in another language and being there on the day. For an elopement with a few guests, doing more yourself can work.
- Should my planner be based in the UK or in the destination?
- Each has strengths. A planner based in the destination knows it deeply but is remote from you; a UK-based planner is easy to reach but needs people on the ground. The strongest arrangement is both: a UK contact you can ring and a coordinator in the country on the day. We explain every option on our who-can-plan-my-wedding-abroad page.
- How do I find a wedding planner for a wedding abroad?
- Start with the destination, because planners cover specific places, then shortlist two or three and put the same ten questions to each. Compare the written answers, not the photographs. A free, no-obligation conversation should tell you quickly whether you trust them.
Who can plan my wedding abroad?
Yourself, the venue, a travel company, a local planner or a UK planner, compared.
