The right choice depends on how much heat you can comfortably dance in, how far in advance your guests can take leave, and whether you dream of a golden late-summer terrace or a soft, quiet spring garden. Here is what we have learned from planning weddings across Cyprus, Greece, Malta, Spain and Italy, month by month. Spring: April to early June For many of our couples, late April, May and early June are the sweet spot. The Mediterranean has woken up but not yet reached its summer peak, so daytime temperatures typically sit in the low-to-mid twenties, evenings are pleasantly cool without needing wraps until quite late, and the countryside is at its most beautiful, with wildflowers still in bloom across Cyprus and the Greek islands. Venues are also more available in this window than in peak summer, which gives you more choice over timings and locations. The one honest trade-off is that early spring can occasionally bring an unsettled day, particularly in April, so a venue with a graceful indoor option is worth having as a backup rather than an afterthought. Early summer: June June is often described as the most reliable month of the year in Cyprus and the eastern Mediterranean — warm, dry, with long daylight hours that let you plan a late afternoon ceremony followed by golden-hour photographs and an evening reception that doesn't need to rush indoors. It is a particularly popular choice with couples marrying in Cyprus, where June days are hot but not yet at their August intensity, and the sea is warm enough for guests to enjoy without complaint. Because it sits just before the school summer holidays begin, June can also be easier for guests without children, though those with school-age families may find late July or August more practical for travel. High summer: July and August July and August bring the Mediterranean's most dependable sunshine, and there is a particular joy to a wedding under a properly hot summer sky, with long, lazy evenings and a real sense of occasion. This is also when school holidays make travel simplest for guests with children, which matters enormously to many of our couples. The honest consideration is heat: daytime temperatures across Cyprus, southern Spain and parts of Italy can reach the low-to-mid thirties, so a midday ceremony is rarely advisable. We generally recommend a late afternoon or early evening start, shaded areas for older guests, and plenty of water on hand. Popular venues also book furthest in advance for these months, so earlier planning matters. Early autumn: September and October If we had to choose a single window to recommend most often, it would be September. The sea has spent all summer warming up and is at its most inviting, daytime temperatures ease back into the high twenties, and there is a gentler, golden quality to the light that photographers particularly love. Cyprus, Crete, the Peloponnese and Malta all hold onto warmth well into October, making this an excellent choice for couples who want summer's reliability without its full intensity. Venues that were fully booked in July often have more availability, and the crowds at popular spots begin to thin, giving your day a slightly more relaxed, unhurried feel. Late autumn and winter: November to March Outside the main season, the Mediterranean takes on a quieter character. Cyprus in particular remains mild well into November and again from February, with daytime temperatures often comfortable enough for an outdoor ceremony wrapped with warmer tones in your styling. This window suits couples who want an intimate, low-key gathering, who are drawn to the idea of a smaller guest list, or who simply prefer the idea of marrying without the summer crowds. Winter also tends to bring the most flexible pricing on accommodation and venues, which can matter if you are planning for a larger group. The trade-off is that evenings turn cool once the sun sets, so heating, blankets or an indoor reception space become part of the practical planning conversation. Choosing what matters most to you There is rarely a wrong answer here, only priorities to weigh. If reliable heat and school-holiday timing matter most, high summer will suit you well. If you would rather have golden light, a warm sea and slightly easier planning logistics, September is hard to beat. If budget flexibility and an intimate atmosphere appeal, the quieter months either side of Christmas are worth genuine consideration, particularly in Cyprus where the climate remains kind even in winter.
